What to Expect with Baseball Betting and Our Handicapping Service


Best Bets and Emails

There will likely be 200 to 300 baseball handicapping selections throughout the season, which works out to 10 to 15 picks per week. There will also be Playoff and World Series selections when The Baseball Handicapper sees favorable situations and line value.

The Baseball Handicapper’s math model requires each starting pitcher to have at least two (2) starts both at home and away before we will even consider a game as a Best Bet. This is why we do not begin releasing picks to our subscribers until the 3rd or 4th week of the season.  This will also explain why you will not see Best Bets from The Baseball Handicapper on games with a rookie pitcher just brought up from the Minor Leagues, seen most often in the dog days of summer in late August and September, when a team is out of Playoff contention. We may, however, have some early season strong opinions (not a best bet) based on other factors than the math.

Our Best Bets will be sent to you via email. When there are day and night games it is possible you will receive two (2) emails that day, one in the morning no later than Noon Eastern (9am Pacific) and the other no later than 6pm Eastern (3pm Pacific). This allows The Baseball Handicapper to account for the most current player matchups, weather conditions, and scheduled umpires, which are not always known by Noon Eastern Time when we release our Daytime Best Bets. Our emails will clearly state whether or not you should expect another email that same day.

By signing up on the FREE PICKS page you become a Member of The Baseball Handicapper. This entitles you to occasional free picks and our weekly newsletter that will include a recap of the prior week and season to date.

Subscriptions Packages - Insiders
By purchasing one of the above Subscription Plans you will be recognized as an Insider with The Baseball Handicapper. Insiders receive daily email(s) with our baseball handicapping selections along with a brief write-up of why we are making each pick a Best Bet. This information is also viewable online by logging into your account at our website. See an example of our Best Bet write-ups here. You will also receive all the benefits afforded to our Members, such as website access to any Free Picks and analysis on other games that are not quite Best Bet caliber plays. Weighting on Selections and Execution

Each one of our Best Bets will be rated by units that range from 2-units to 4-units. We will state the consensus money line on each Best Bet at the time of our release to subscribers, so you can track our record. The majority of our plays will be 2-unit bets, with some occasional 3-unit plays and a rare 4-unit selection.

The majority of our plays will be straight plays or side plays where you bet on one team to win outright. There is no point spread, just a money line. You should be able to find the money line indicated in the email at one of your sportsbooks, or at least within a few cents of this line. However, we understand that sometimes the line will move… sometimes with us… and sometimes against us. Go ahead with the selection even if the stated line is slightly different at your book. These minor line movements will even out over time. Much of our analysis is based on the scheduled Starting Pitchers, so be sure you select LISTED PITCHERS MUST GO on all wagers, not just “Action”.

On Over/Under selections, also known as Totals plays, there will be a money line and a run line component. While the money line comments in the prior paragraph also apply to Totals plays, it is very important that you only make the bet if the run line is the same as the run line we posted in our Best Bet selection. For example, if our Best Bet selection is to take Over 8 runs and your sportsbook is only offering Over 8.5 runs, do not make the bet. A half point for a baseball total is very significant. Discipline is very important in winning when baseball betting!
